Rated 5 out of 5 by from Get this course, it's a game changer It looked interesting but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I learnt and how well constructed it is. It's approachable from almost any starting point, beginner to advanced. It's been done by a person who is both expert and passionate about the subject. I have done a few courses on communication and this is in a different league. Well worth while, I commend it to you.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from waste of my precious time I am trying to improve my public speaking ability so I thought that this would be helpful. I have listened to several of the lectures and am not sure which is more painful---listening to him , or having my fingernails pulled with no anesthesia. He is very self promoting and he keeps going on and on and on about listening. I am NOT trying to minimize the importance of listening, but GET TO THE POINT Mr. Treasure. Give me tools to speak better. I would NOT recommend this course. I am astonished by the number of reviews that praise the content. WHAT CONTENT???

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very helpful! As a corporate trainer, I found the course to be very helpful. Since my audience is so broad I have found that I need to try different things to make sure my message is received. This course helped me to think of those communication roadblocks and determine the best way to connect with others.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Helpful in training to interact with listener I took this course because my personal speaking needed improvement. This course delivered on my expectations. The key point that is hammered out over and again is the need to really focus on the listener rather than focus upon your own intentions in delivering the message. In short, if you don't address the needs of your listeners with your delivery and content, they are NOT going to walk away with a great experience. And neither will you! "Speak to the listen" is often repeated to drive this point home. I am hoping to use the lessons from this course in a major corporate presentation coming up soon. I am very hopeful and actually confident that things will go much better than if I had skipped this course and relied upon content-only during the meeting. In that regard, this course was incredibly helpful to me and I think it will be for most all students who really pay attention to the messages delivered.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK for some basic communication tips Pros: teacher clearly passionate about his topic. Seems like a nice enough guy. Some good advice about basic communication skills including public speaking. Cons: way too much self promotion. He should have let the host introduce his experience and background at the beginning of the first lecture and then let it go. Just about every lecture he found an opportunity to boast about his TED talk experience and lectures to "thousands of people". I unfortunately found it quite off-putting and it detracted from my enjoyment of the course.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Word Salad This is like a term paper in high school that needs to be a certain amount of words but you only have one good paragraph. So naturally you encase that one good paragraph with hours and hours of filler nonsense. Save yourself time you can never get back and youtube how to communicate.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from This course is really bad. I've gotten as far as chapter 7 and he is just now getting into speaking. Perhaps if this chapter and the next two are good I will raise the rating, but it was difficult to get to this point. The Great Courses has some really great courses, this is not one of them and shows the pitfalls of basing course on TED talks. Would not recommend and I'm being generous giving it two stars.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I was so excited... I was happy to get the three "How to Speak so that people want to listen". However, my three DVD's didn't work. I tried working with my friends and they didn't work either. I'm hoping that someone can get my new DVD's -- thank you.
